Susanne's Farewell

Last night we held a surprise farewell party for Susanne, we all arrived at Eve's 7.15 in prepararation to surprise Susanne who was due at 7.30, that was Ian's task, to get her there on time.  I guess it was a pleasant evening, i just wasn't well and in view of what had happened recently just wasn't in the mood.

During the evening Susanne was presented with gardening vouchers and a memory book compiled by Sue.

On Your Marks

Last night we continued with our On The Marks Challenge.

We made Brazilian Carnival Floats

While making Brazilian Floats we had the Brazilian Flag facepainted on our hands or faces.

Then one group made up a dance routine

And another group did Circus Skills

Brownie Letter

Last night at Brownies i gave a letter telling them i would be giving up at the end of term, below is a copy of the letter.

Dear Parents and Brownies

It is with regret I have made the difficult decision to resign as a Brownie Leader from the end of term

I started life with Brownies in 1992 and after 20 years, for several reasons I feel now is the right time to have a break.  I will miss my brownies but things change.

I have enjoyed my ‘Brownie Adventure’ and had a go at some lovely things, as well as gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I have now reached that stage where my brownies have now become brownie parents.

I will always be prepared to ‘lend a hand’ and help out if and when needed.

As Sue is down a pair hands I am sure she will appreciate an extra pair of hands to help out.

 Regards

Mrs Dawn Davies

This morning i got a lovely email from Pearls Mum

Hi Dawn,
We were really sorry to see that you're not going to be doing Brownies - I know that Pearl will miss you! Hopefully we'll see you in person before the end of term.
Best wishes,
Tamasin

Hunstanton Brownies 1992 - 2012

Last Thursday i sent in my resignation from Hunstanton Brownies for the following reasons

I have not been happy in Guiding for quite some time for several reasons -

  • Lack of communication, this seems to be the norm these days in District, Division and County, a small group make a decision then take it to meetings as a fait accompli, i feel it is not very democratic and with email makes the need for meetings obsolete
  • District Meetings, since we moved how we did District Meetings (I understand the convenience and meanings why), it bacame very clicky and people were getting into little groups, this is the effect of being too formal and sitting round a table, the last meeting i went to, no one spoke to me, i came away upset and depressed and thought 'why do i do this'
  • Personal,  I have in recent months felt ostracised, maybe i inadvertantly said something to upset someone (if so my apologies), maybe i am being over sensitive - who knows.  I was very upset and guilt ridden with the loss of 1st Hunstanton Brownies and struggled with it, and then everything that has happened with 1st Hunstanton Scouts and Guides (even though i was not directly involved), i believe scouts and guides should work together, and this bickering and back stabbing really upset me.  I spent 20 years on that committee and for them to push out Guiding like they did was a hard thing to swallow,   The failure of my business i have found extremely hard, and at the moment hate leaving home, Bob does all the shopping and i go into town as little as possible in fact to church and back is the most i venture.
  • Health, it is no secret that in recent months i have been struggling with 2 painful knees and 1 hip, and sometimes i have found the brownie meetings extremely difficult, and i often do not feel very productive/helpful for you or the Brownies.

This decision has been months in the making but already i feel the big hole in my life that Guiding is leaving, and i may well regret this decision, but at this time feel it is the right decision, nothing is set in stone so who knows what will happen.

Moving On

My aim is to continue Brownies untill the end of term.

I have a long standing love of Hunstanton Brownies and would hate to give up my involvement completely, so perhaps my talents would be best suited in admin etc (as long as it doesn't include accounts :))  Also if you need help on the odd Brownie Meeting i would be happy to stand in. We will see what happens

I did intend to give up Senior Section but Jan Wiegand persuaded me to continue at least for the foreseeable future.

I have given up Girlguiding Norfolk website as well.

I started with Girlguidin as an Assistant Brownie Leader in 1992 which means i have been involved for 20 years.

On Your Marks

We carried on with our On Your Marks Challenge today, We designed a Sports Kit and we had some great ones.

And then we made an Olympic Torch

Micheal and Hana get married

On the 16th June 2012 we hired a mini bus, for Andy, Jenny, Sophie, Dylan, Kinga and Kevin as well as us to go to the latest family wedding.

We arrived about 12 noon, went to get something to eat and went to Hana's to get changed.  Then we left the Bride and her Bridemaids getting ready.
The Bridemaids were
Kira Davies - Micheals Niece
Ruby Buck - Hanas Cousin
Megan Harris - Hanas Stepsister
Iliana Ward-Davies - Micheals Daughter.

We arrived at the Registry Office at about 3.30pm and met up with Debbie and Jon (who was in trouble as he had left his shoes).

The weather was a bit iffy but didn't dampen the mood.

During the ceremony, i read out a poem that me and Bob took several months to get right!

A sign of peace is a white dove
And marriage is a gift of love
A joining, to make two lives whole
A joining, to make a single soul

But the act of marriage is just the start
This ceremony, here is just a part
We are gathered here to be with you
While you express your love, forever true

Yet life will throw its ups and downs
With lots of smiles and sometimes frowns
Just remember one small fact above
This marriage is a gift of love

This poem was the weddings best kept secret, Micheal and Hana never saw it and it reduced the registrar to tears, she was most taken with it, and kept saying how wonderful it is.

We headed for the reception at the Cromwell Lodge Hotel in Banbury.

I presented Micheal and Hana with a framed copy of the poem, getting a pink frame proved interesting, but i was happy with it.

Jen and Andy presented Micheal and Hana with a cross stitch sampler which took Jenny about 3 months to make.
