Lizard Point 10th – 14th June 2013

Monday

We left home at 7.30am dropped moped off at Jen and Andys stopped for breakfast at Peterborough, lunch at Burgerking, on the way we went through a place called Halfway, by we wasn't quite.

We arrived at Kuggar, Cornwall about 6pm after 425 miles travelling nearly 10 hours including stops, using 1 1/4 tank petrol.

Weather was cloudy and towards end of journey drizzley. We got lost twice.

We arrived at Parkdean, Sea Acres, Kuggar to a very basic caravan but with spectacular views over the bay we had dinner in restaurant.

After dinner we went awall down to the bay where I idiotically slipped over, however, the bay was beautiful.

Tuesday

Decided to have breakfast in restaurant to find they only served breakfast on Fri and sat.  So we hopped in car and after several false starts ending up at a lovely little bay called Coverak where we had full English breakfast overlooking bay.

We then had a wander round the bay and harbor.  Although the day started off drizzley it turned into a lovely day.

Today we passed a place called London Apprentice.

We then went onto Melgavissey, near St Austell, and visited the World of Model Railways,
which I found disappointing then had a wonder round the lovely oldie worldie town and harbor and enjoyed a Cornish ice cream and Cream Tea

We then went onto Falmouth and had spectacular views of the docks from above,

then drove onto Pendennis Head, Falmouth and had a walk round the ruins

Wednesday

Today we planned to walk along the coastal path round Lizard Point however, the weaher was against us and we woke upto a completely miserable day rain and thick fog it was awful.

We drove into Lizard the most southerly point in Britain, and had breakfast and then drove onto Lizard Point and had a walk getting thoroughly drenched we could barely see the lighthouse, although light was flashing and the fog horn sounding. At the Lizard there was a sign pointing to Lowestoft, Suffolk 350 miles.

Then we went back to van to dry out, then went into Helston still foggy and drizzly but that turned out to be disappointing and boring we then stopped at RNAS Culdrose the largest military airbase in the UK, it was so foggy nothing much was happening, we had a drink and cake, then returned to van, where a black and white cat probably belonging to Postman Pat tried to follow us in the van.

Later the weather cleared so we drove back to the Lizard to try and get a better look.

Thursday

Weather much better today nice and sunny though very windy.

We started off early to Marazion, the home of St Michaels Mount, but it was high tide so we couldn't cross the causeway and because of the High Wind there would be no ferry today, at a local recommendation we had a lovely breakfast at the Godolphin Arms overlooking the mount.

We then headed off to Lands End for a couple of hours seeing the spectacular views, very blowy we last went there about 25 years ago and I recall it being blowy then.

After that we headed back to St Michaels Mount and was just in time to see the Causeway being revealed,  so we followed the Causeway stopping at Chapel Rock en route we arrived at the mount and explored around we went into the gardens and had a cream  tea, where we saw a dog wearing shoes on its back feet, we then went back over the causeway and then explored Marazion.

We then went to Portleven where it had an unusual harbour and an amazing clock tower, the Bickford Smith Institute
We had fish and chips on the harbour wall while watching a pied wagtail playing.

On the way back we stopped at RNAS Culdrose again to see if we could see anything

And finished with a final walk on Kuggars Cliffs
