The Saint (1997)

A very disappointing film, nothing like the series.

Simon Templar has no real family, no real home and Simon Templar isn't even his real name. Yet Simon Templar , also known as the Saint for his use of creating false identities using the names of Catholic saints,is one of the world's most successful thieves. Slick, debonair and a master of disguise, Simon manages to outwit the police again and again. On his next job Simon is hired by the Russian Mafia to steal a cold fusion energy formula from scientist Emma Russel, however the mission backfires as he falls for the pretty, intelligent scientist. Simon and his new love must now manage to outwit the Russian Mafia and work out the energy formula before the worst happens and the US is affected forever. Written by LadyN1
As a young orphan, a boy refuses to accept the name given him by priests and instead chooses to take on the name of Simon Templar after the Saint of magic. Speed ahead and the young boy is now a master thief in bidding wars with countries for his services. Using his skills of master disguise, he eludes all pursuers as he assumes names associated with the various Saints. In this role after stealing from a Russian industrialist, the industrialist hires The Saint to steal a formula for cold fusion being developed by a young female scientist. Cold fusion is said to permit a nation to heat its citizens with only a few gallons of water. However, on this case The Saint falls in love with the scientist placing him in a quandary of fulfilling his professional obligations or staying with the innocent young scientist. When she becomes threatened by the Russian Mafia, he has no choice but to go ahead with his job. However, she follows him to Moscow, setting off a chase across the City and through their sewers. Simon Templar - a fictitious name a young orphan boy invented for himself in a Hong Kong orphanage years ago - is now a suave, debonair, international thief who needs to pull-off just one more exuberant heist to put him at the $50 million mark in his Swiss bank account (his goal amount for retirement). An easy job: simply steal Dr. Emma Russel's formula for cold-fusion, and deliver it to a Russian billionaire bent on sending Russia back to Communism - no problem, Right? Wrong! There's one thing Mr. Templar, master of disguise didn't count on ... falling in love. Written by Shannon De Lacy <delacy@execpc.com>
Ivan Tretiak, Russian Mafia boss who wants to create an oil crisis in Moscow and seize power as a result sends Simon Templar, great international criminal, to England to get a secret formula for cold fusion from U.S. scientist Emma Russell. That formula will give Tretiak a source of cheap energy and a lot of money as result. Templar falls in love with Emma and they try to outwit Tretiak and his guerrillas, hiding from them in Moscow.

Great is the Darkness

In Church this morning we talked about Kings 18v1-39.

This evening i went to Prayer and Praise and we opened with the following hymn, it is just how i feel about the world today, everything is so sad and hurting.

Great is the darkness (Come Lord Jesus)

Great is the darkness
That covers the earth
Oppression, injustice and pain
Nations are slipping
In hopeless despair
Though many have come in Your name
Watching while sanity dies
Touched by the madness and lies

Come Lord Jesus, come Lord Jesus
Pour out Your spirit we pray
Come Lord Jesus, come Lord Jesus
Pour out Your spirit on us today

May now Your church rise
With power and love
This glorious gospel proclaim
In every nation
Salvation will come
To those who believe in Your name
Help us bring light to this world
That we might speed Your return

Great celebrations
On that final day
When out of the heavens You come
Darkness will vanish
All sorrow will end
And rulers will bow at Your throne
Our great commission complete
Then face to face we shall meet

The Shop on Blossom Street (Blossom Street #1) by Debbie Macomber

This was a different type of book for me, picked it up at a book stall, but i thoroughly enjoyed it:)

Four lives knit together ...
There's a little shop on Blossom Street in Seattle called A Good Yarn. You go there to buy knitting supplies and patterns -- and now it's offering a knitting class. The first lesson: how to knit a baby blanket.
For owner Lydia Hoffman, the shop represents her dream of beginning a new life free from the cancer that has ravaged her twice. A life that offers a chance at love ... and maybe marriage.
Jacqueline Donovan is stuck in a marriage that has dwindled into an arrangement of separate rooms and separate lives. She disapproves of the woman married to her only son, but if she knits a baby blanket, she can at least pretend to like her pregnant daughter-in-law.
For Carol Girard, the baby blanket brings a message of hope as she and her husband make a final attempt at in vitro pregnancy.
And tense-looking Alix Townsend -- that's Alix with an "i" -- is learning to knit her blanket for her court-ordered community service project.
Brought together by an age-old craft, these four women make unexpected discoveries -- about themselves and each other. Discoveries that lead to love, to friendship and acceptance, to laughter and dreams.

Behemoth

Two military agents are taking readings on Mount Lincoln near the town of Ascension. There is a quake and the woman dies with marks on her face. The man also dies though we don't see it. Elsewhere, a man is injured in a work crew and dies for no apparent reason. It later turns out the quakes on the mountain are producing a layer of carbon dioxide gas so in laying him down, he suffocated while they did not notice it while standing.
Emily who is studying Mt Lincoln (known for its many quakes) from nearby has to visit the mountain as two "boxes" are malfunctioning. In town we see Thomas's father William who is considered a little dotty as he has some strange theories about the mountain and a Mayan monster which will redress the balance if humanity goes too far. Emily bumps into Thomas in town and they are old friends. Satellite images show movement under the mountain and they believe there are some kind of major quakes and maybe volcanic action going on there.
While everyone else is keeping away from the mountain, Thomas's sister Grace and her boyfriend decide to go camping there, where he plans to propose to her. Thomas is persuaded to go up the mountain as guide for government man, Jack Murray because of something very important there. They meet Emily who is running because part of a mountain suddenly blew out near her, close by. Meanwhile, the proposal was rather ruined by the sight of a monstrous eye appearing out of the side of the mountain and a massive tentacle trying to kill them.
Emily has persuaded the Sheriff to evacuate the whole town but Thomas and Emily decide to go back onto the mountain to look for the missing couple. They find Jack injured on the mountain then have their own close encounter with the monster, who kills Jack but not before he has told them that the troubles at Mt Lincoln were felt all over the world six months ago and a missing box may be their only chance against the monster (lost when the agents were killed), so they go looking for it while looking for the couple.
An earthquake seriously damages the town, and the diner William is in, trying to get owner-waitress Zoe to leave, sinks into the ground. The box is recovered but the monster has found the couple first. The boyfriend ends up in the monster's maw but Thomas turns up in time and pulls Grace to safety. 73 minutes into the film, the monster decides it is time to reveal itself, ripping off the top of a mountain to do so. Thomas opens the box and fires a shoulder-launched multi-warhead missile at the monster, with the one which goes down its throat killing it. William and Zoe escape from the diner in a sinkhole and all are reunited.
The location used for the town and surrounding countryside was Stawamus Chief(Squamish), British Columbia, Canada.
